Cloning is the process of creating an exact genetic replica of an organism. This can be accomplished through various techniques, but the most common method involves taking a somatic cell (any cell that is not a sperm or egg cell) from the organism to be cloned and fusing it with an egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. This fused cell then develops into an embryo, which is implanted into a surrogate mother and allowed to develop into a full-grown organism that is genetically identical to the original.

Cloning has been successfully performed on a variety of organisms, including plants, mice, cows, and sheep (most famously, Dolly the sheep). However, cloning remains a controversial topic due to ethical concerns and potential health risks to the cloned organism.
