In terms of overall and international passenger traffic, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the country's second busiest airport after Delhi.
Formerly known as Sahar International Airport, it is the primary international airport servicing the Mumbai Metropolitan Area in India. The airport has three terminals with a total land size of 750 hectares (1,850 acres). It handles around 950 aircraft operations each day. The airport is managed by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India and a consortium led by GVK Industries Ltd that was recruited to modernise the airport in February 2006. It is situated in Vile Parle East, between the communities of Santacruz and Sahar.
