Detailed Solution

Rice is the staple crop for the majority of people in India. Rice is an example of a kharif crop and its cultivation is done during the months of monsoon. Its cultivation varies from place to place due to variations in rainfall. In India, the cultivation of rice takes place as a subsistence agricultural crop as well as a commercial crop, as per the availability of the climatic conditions. For rice cultivation, a high temperature of more than 25 degrees celsius is needed for its proper growth with high rainfall of more than 100 cm annually. Some areas have these climatic conditions naturally as in Odisha and West Bengal, that’s why in this area rice is also grown as a subsistence crop while in Punjab and Harayana, rainfall is quite less due to which irrigational facilities are necessary for its cultivation.
