Detailed Solution

Rice is a staple crop in India.
It is a widely cultivated cereal grain and a staple food consumed worldwide, especially in Asia and Africa. It is a type of Kharif crop which requires high humidity. Other conditions, such as a high temperature of 25 degrees and high rainfall above 100 centimetres, are favourable for growing rice. It is mainly grown in the plains of north and north-eastern India, coastal areas, and the deltaic regions. In the states that receive low rainfall, such as Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan, rice is grown with a well-developed network of canal irrigation and tube wells.
