Kushana kings in India controlled the Silk Route effectively.
Around 2000 years ago, the Kushanas dominated throughout central Asia and northwest India. Their two significant hubs of authority were Peshawar and Mathura. They also included Taxila in their realm. During their rule, a portion of the Silk Route ran from Central Asia to the seaports at the Indus River's mouth, from which silk was transported to the Roman Empire in the west. One of the first dynasties to issue gold coins on the Indian subcontinent was the Kushanas. Merchants along the Silk Route used these.
