Detailed Solution

Nana saheb led the revolt at Kanpur. Following mutinies in different regions, numerous regiments dispersed to join other forces at strategic locations like Delhi, Kanpur, and Lucknow. Continuing to follow them, the villagers and townspeople also erupted in revolt and formed a coalition with zamindars and nobles who were eager to impose their authority and take on the British. The late Peshwa Baji Rao's adoptive son, Nana Saheb, who resided close to Kanpur, collected a force and drove out the colonial garrison from the province and subsequently led the revolt at Kanpur. He referred to himself as Peshwa. He also said that he functioned as a governor under Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
