Detailed Solution

16 Mahajanpada was considered the whole of India.
The Janapadas became Mahajanapadas with the gain of large areas. It consisted of 16 kingdoms in India in ancient times. It was the later Vedic period which existed about 2500 years ago. Mahajanapada was set up when people (tribes) of this period decided to form their territorial communities, which led to the rise of new and permanent areas of settlements called states or Janapadas. In Mahajanapadas period, Ganas and Sanghas existed. Each Mahajanapada had its fortified capital. Some of the names of the Mahajanapadas are Magadha, Kashi, Anga, Kosala, Panchala, Avanti and Kuru.
