Detailed Solution

Buddhist missionaries from China introduced hand-printing technology into Japan around AD 768-770.
Hand printing technology was invented in China in the year 594. Chinese utilised woodblock printing technology used on rubbing sheets. The Chinese widely used printing technology as it had a vast bureaucracy and many books were printed under imperial sponsorship. This technology was carried by Buddhist missionaries and transferred to Japan in AD 768-770. Hence the oldest Japanese book, the Buddhist Diamond Sutra', was printed in AD 868. Soon libraries and bookstores in Japan were filled with hand-printed materials of various types.
