Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi started the non-cooperation movement in 1920 in an effort to persuade the British to give the Indians self-government. This was done by getting the people to stop cooperating with the British. The goal was to achieve self-governance and complete independence from the British. Through this movement he also tried to incorporate the Khilafat issue and unify the Hindus and Muslims. He believed that by uniting Khilafat and non-cooperation, two powerful communities—Hindu and Muslim—could put an end to colonial rule.
