Over time, they have been denied access to the advantages of socioeconomic progress, fundamental amenities, literacy, and public jobs. The government established a high-level committee in 2005 after realising that Muslims in India were falling behind in terms of a number of development indicators. According to the community report, the Muslim community is similar to other disadvantaged groups like the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. In comparison to other socio-religious communities, Muslim children between the ages of 7 and 16 have significantly less years of schooling. In the age range of 6 to 14 years, 25% of Muslim children have either never attended school or have dropped out.
