Detailed Solution

General Dyer opened fire at the peaceful gathering at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13 1919. On April 13, 1919, the day of Baisakhi, thousands of people gathered in Jallianwala Bagh near the Golden Temple in Amritsar to protest the Rowlatt Act. The British were outraged, and on General Dyer's orders, British authorities began firing indiscriminately on all individuals there. This catastrophe, known as the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, murdered nearly a thousand people, including children. General Dyer also wanted to send a message to the Indians that any rejection of colonial rule would not be tolerated.
