BR Ambedkar organised the Dalits into the Depressed class Association in 1930. At the second Round Table Conference, Dr B.R. Ambedkar organised the Dalits into the Depressed Categories Association in 1930 and clashed with Mahatma Gandhi by seeking separate Dalit electorates. Gandhiji started a death march once the British government united with Ambedkar's demand. Separate electorates for Dalits, he claimed, would hinder the method of their incorporation into society. The Poona written agreement of Sept 1932 resulted from Ambedkar accepting Gandhi's stance. It had reserved seats in provincial and central legislative councils for the Depressed categories. However, they had to be elected by the final voters. On the other hand, the Dalit movement remained cautious of the Congress-led national movement.
