Dr B.R.Ambedkar organised the Dalits into the Depressed Classes Association in 1930. Dr B.R. Ambedkar clashed with Mahatma Gandhi at the Second Round Table Conference, demanding separate electorates for the Dalits. Gandhi started a fast until his death when the British government agreed to Ambedkar's demand. In Gandhi's opinion, separate voting districts for Dalits would impede their integration into society. Ambedkar eventually agreed with Gandhi's viewpoint after signing the Poona Pact.
