Detailed Solution

The Lucknow Pact was signed between Congress and the Muslim League.
In 1916, at a joint gathering of both parties held in Lucknow, the Congress and the Muslim League formed an agreement known as the Lucknow Pact. The Lucknow Pact gave the impression that Hindus and Muslims were in political concord. However, it was only a brief impression.
The parties' agreement to have separate electorates for each community gave birth to communal politics in India. By announcing its acceptance of this accord, the INC also seemed to acknowledge the presence of two distinct factions in India, each with a unique set of interests.
Thus, the alliance with the Congress Party moved the Muslim League, which had previously been less influential, to the forefront of Indian politics.
