Raja Ram Mohan Roy published the Sambad Kaumudi. Ram Mohan was an Indian social reformer. He studied Persian, Arabic, and Sanskrit, as well as the Quran, Upanishads, and Vedas, and he translated several of the religious scriptures into English. All these had a tremendous impact on his religious beliefs. His most notable achievements are his fight for women's rights, particularly Sati, a century-old practice. Sambad Kaumudi published a number of articles in which Roy denounced Sati as cruel and un-Hindu.
