Rani Subaran Kunwar re-established the tribal rule in Bastar. People in Bastar started to voice concerns about British meddling in local village governments, bazaars, and festivals. The revolt was started by the Dhurwas of the Kanger forest. Gunda Dhur, a resident of the village of Nethanar, rose to prominence as a movement motivator. The rebels distributed mango boughs, lumps of dirt, peppers, and arrows across the villages as an invitation to join the uprising. The homes of authorities and traders, as well as schools and police stations, were robbed by the rebels. A key figure in the Bhumkal rebellion, Rani Subaran Kunwar restored the tribal rule in Bastar. However, the British put an end to the uprising after just five days and took back control.
