Detailed Solution

Famine can be defined as widespread deaths that happen due to starvation and epidemics that are caused by lack of rainfall, crop imbalance, scarcity of water, and government policies.
The worst famine that happened in Indian history was the Bengal famine that hit the Bengal state of British India in 1943. It claimed the lives of around 2.1–3 million people, and the main causes of their deaths were starvation and other diseases like malaria or cholera. The most affected groups during the devastating famine of Bengal were agriculture labourers, fishermen, transport workers, and casual labourers.
