Detailed Solution

Delhi remained a seat of power for many centuries during the Sultanate period. The beginning of the Tomar kingdom in the eighth century marks the earliest mention of Delhi in history. It has been built, destroyed, and rebuilt more than once because those who successfully invaded the Indian subcontinent looted Delhi, the country's capital. And those who stayed were so impressed by the city's advantageous location that they chose to make it their capital and rebuild it in their image. During the Sultanate era, the urban centre developed into a hub of culture. The Delhi Sultanate ended in 1526 when Babur established the Mughal Empire by defeating Ibrahim Lodi, the last Lodi sultan, and his forces at the first Battle of Panipat. He shifted his capital to Agra.
