Non-perennial rivers have water only during the rainy season.
They are also known as seasonal rivers. The peninsular rivers of India depend on the monsoon as their water source. They are filled or sometimes overflow their banks during the rainy season. It results in floods and damage to life and property. But after the monsoons, these rivers have less water content. Rivers like Godavari, Kaveri, and Krishna are seasonal. For the Himalayan rivers like Ganga and Brahmaputra, the melting of glaciers is their source of water and is perennial. The irregularity in monsoons affects the peninsular rivers, while the increasing global temperature affects the Himalayan rivers.
