The Constitution was drafted with the help of many Indians. However, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who served as the Drafting Committee's chairman and oversaw the document's finalisation, may have had the most significant impact. In his final speech to the Constituent Assembly, Dr Ambedkar stated that political democracy must be accompanied by economic and social democracy. Giving people the right to vote would not automatically eliminate other inequalities, such as between rich and poor or between upper and lower castes. He predicted that India would enter a life of contradictions with the new Constitution. There will be equality in politics and inequality in social and economic life.
