Mahatma Gandhi saw the Non-Cooperation Movement, along with the Khilafat movement, as an opportunity to bring Muslims under a unified national movement.
Gandhi considered so as leaders like Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali approached him on the possibility of a united movement against British rule. The Non-Cooperation Movement reached the countryside from the cities and was perceived differently by different sections of our society. In Awadh, the peasants, led by Baba Ram Chandra, revolted against the landlords. Meanwhile, Alluri Sitaram Raju, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, was against the colonial government's restrictions in forest areas. The government officials boycotted their positions. Thus Gandhiji believed that he could utilise the opportunity to bring all people of the society under a unified national movement through Non-cooperation..
