He defeated Sri Lanka by invading and seizing their valuables, including the gold Buddha statue. Rajendra I seized prized statues from defeated rulers and stored them in his Shiva temple. His collection included a Ganesha statue, a Sun-pedestal that belonged to Chalukyas, a Nandi statue to Eastern Chalukyas, and a Kali statue of Palas of Bengal.
