Chennai International Airport acts as the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) regional headquarters for South India, which includes the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala, as well as the union territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep. The airport serves the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and the surrounding area. It is located near Meenambakkam, which is 21 kilometres southwest of the city centre. Chennai International Airport is India's sixth busiest airport and the country's third-busiest airport for international traffic. The airport handled 9.53 million passengers in the fiscal year 2021.
