Dietrich Brandis, a German forest expert, suggested training people in the science of conservation. The government maintained the forests in India during colonial rule. They were worried about the reckless feeling of trees. They decided to seek advice from a German forest expert for forest management. As a result, Dietrich Brandis was made the first Inspector General of Forests in India. He suggested that a forest management plan had to be prepared. He laid the foundation of Forest Services in India in 1864. Forest acts were formulated under his supervision in 1865.
