Rani Durgawati, the queen of Gonds, is an icon of bravery for Indian women. Rani Durgavati, who ruled the Gonds from 1550 until 1564, is regarded as a military hero for successfully holding out against the Mughal army. She wed Dalpat Shah, the eldest son of the Gond dynasty's King, but soon after they were married, he passed away, and she was made regent and king of Gondwana. Her thriving kingdom was repeatedly attacked by the Mughals, first by Baz Bahadur, the Sultan of Malwa, and then by Asaf Khan, a general of the Mughals. She not only repelled the initial assault but also severely damaged Bahadur's army. The second battle was won by Rani herself, who led the troops and drove the Mughals from her realm.
