Detailed Solution

Gonds used to practice shifting cultivation, whereas Ahoms used to do forced labour for the state.
The Gonds inhabited the vast forested land called Gondwana. They practised shifting cultivation. In the shifting cultivation method, trees and bushes of an area are first cut and burnt. The ashes get sowed with the seeds of various crops. The tribe then shifts to a new piece of land that gets cleared and planted similarly. After some use, the land starts to lose its fertility. The Ahoms State functioned upon forced labour. These forced labourers were known as paiks. All villages in the state sent paiks according to their census by rotation.
