Zollverein was the Customs Union formed in 1834. Prussia took the initiative to form it in 1834. The majority of German states joined this union. The goals of this trade union were to eliminate tariffs and cut the number of currencies from 30 to 2. The goal of the Zollverein was to unite the German people economically. Defending its interests would enhance the country's economy and should arouse and strengthen national emotion. Because varied currencies, weights, and measures were impediments to economic growth, it led to the construction of an indisputable economic zone where the free and open flow of products, capital, and people was permitted and practicable.
