V.S. Naipaul was a Nobel Prize-winner descendant of indentured labour from India.
Naipaul wrote a book called Half a Life, for which he received an award. He was a Trinidadian-born British writer. His mother and father were Droapatie and Seepersad Naipaul, respectively. He was born on August 17th, 1932, on the island of Trinidad. His early novels were set in Trinidad. He won the Booker Prize in 1971 for his work "In a Free State" and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2001. In addition, he was awarded the Trinity Cross, Trinidad and Tobago's highest national honour.
