Detailed Solution

Gomthas was a paid servant to supervise weavers, collect supplies, and examine the quality of cloth.
Weavers and Gomasthas were frequently at odds. In place of earlier supply merchants, the British East India Company appointed Gomasthas to supervise weavers in India. They were outsiders with no social ties to the villages, unlike previous supply merchants who had close relationships with the weavers and lived in the villages. The Gomasthas were frequently arrogant, marching into villages with sepoys, causing resentment among the villagers. They also punished villagers for commodity supply delays. This resulted in a loss of weavers because they could no longer bargain, and the prices were quite low.
