Detailed Solution

Forced recruitment was a process by which the colonial state forced people in India to join the army.
The First World War brought about a new political and economic environment in India. Prices rose throughout the war, doubling between 1913 and 1918, making life extremely difficult for the common citizen. The colonial government used forced recruitment to compel people to enlist in the military. Soldiers were needed from villages, and the forced recruitment of people in rural regions sparked intense resentment. People believed that once the war ended, their tribulations would end. However, that did not take place.
