Ghiyasuddin Balban was a slave bought by Iltutmish and was raised to the position of Sultan.
Balban was the third and one of the most powerful Sultans of the Mamluk or Slave Dynasty who ruled Delhi from 1266 CE to 1286 CE. Balban introduced the Persian customs of sajda and paibos, which means prostrating before the king and kissing the feet of the king, respectively.
