Detailed Solution

Lord Irwin was a viceroy in 1929. Lord Irwin, also known as Edward Frederick Lindley Wood style, was a prominent British Conservative politician in the 1930s who served as the Viceroy of British India from 3 April 1926 to 18 April 1931. Major events occurred during his stint as Viceroy during the Indian Independence War, cementing his reputation in Britain as one of the most capable Viceroys to rule India. He also had a role to play in encouraging the Simon Commission. There were protests against the Simon Commission all over India, and no political party supported it. Viceroy Lord Irwin, therefore, announced in October 1929 a vague promise of "dominion status" for India in a future that was not stated.
