Al-idrisi was an Arab cartographer. He was one of the most well-known cartographers and is credited with creating the first world maps. Cartography is the study and application of the art, science, and technology of producing maps, plans, charts, and other graphical representations. Consequently, a cartographer is a person who produces maps. In most cases, cartographers acquire and verify the information needed to make maps while in the field. For example, around 1154 CE, the Arab cartographer Al-Idrisi created a map of India. This illustrated the advancements in geography at the time.
