Marco Polo was an Italian explorer who learned the art of woodblock printing in China. During the period of his exile, he stayed in Genoa. He was not the first to travel to China along the silk route. He became famous because of a travel book he co-authored during his jail period. Woodblock printing or block printing was an East Asian technique for printing texts and images. The origin of this block printing took place in China. Woodblock printing was a process in which a design was carved on the surface of a block.
