Detailed Solution

Hauz-i-Sultani was built outside Delhi-i-Kuhna.
Rulers wanted to express their close connection with God. They also desired to make it seem as if they were chosen as rulers by God for their moral responsibility and goodness. Kings wanted to earn the trust of their subjects, and there was no better way than to construct the house of God. Temples, mosques and gurdwaras were symbols of a ruler’s power. It was a common belief that the heavens would never withhold rain during the reign of a just ruler. Instead, the skies would rejoice and bless people with sufficient rainfall. Enabling the availability of precious water to the masses became another aim of rulers. Sultan Iltutmish built Hauz-i-Sultani, also known as “King’s Reservoir,” outside Delhi-i-Kuhna, for which he earned universal respect.
