Khilafat Movement was launched by Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali.
The Turkish Sultan, or Khalifa, was stripped of his political authority in 1920 due to a disciplinary treaty that the British imposed on him. Thus, Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali founded the Khilafat Movement to start a full-fledged non-cooperation movement against the British under Gandhi's leadership and demand for Swaraj. The Non-Cooperation Movement gained traction in 1921–1922. Numerous students had abandoned institutions and universities under government supervision. Many attorneys quit their professions, including Moti Lal Nehru, C.R. Das, C. Rajagopalachari, and Asaf Ali. Legislative bodies were disregarded, and British titles were given up. Public bonfires made of foreign clothing were burned.
