The Indian Emigration Act was oppressive legislation against the plantation workers. The Indian Emigration Act of 1859 was passed by the British to protect the economic interests of the British while exploiting the Indian labourers. According to this law, Indian plantation workers were not allowed to leave the plantation where they worked without the owners' permission. Britishers believed that everyone would be getting land once they returned to their village under Gandhian rule. They escaped and started going towards their villages, but unfortunately, they were caught by the police, who brutally beat them up.
