Detailed Solution

Ali was Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law.
He was one of the earliest Muslims, the Islamic Prophet Muhammad's cousin, and his son-in-law. Ali ibn Abi Talib also served as the fourth Caliph of Islam from 656 CE to 661 CE until he was slain. He spent much of his time as emperor trying to put things back in order during the First Fitna, the Islamic Empire's first civil conflict. As the first in a long series of imams, or spiritual leaders, who would follow him, Shia Muslims, a sect of the Muslim faith, see him as the sole legitimate heir to Muhammad's temporal position. According to specific accounts, inside the revered Ka'aba, Ali was born in Mecca around 601 CE.
