Detailed Solution

Delhi was recaptured by the British in September 1857 after the Revolt of 1857.
The Revolt of 1857, which started in May 1857 at Meerut, spread to other regions. The Sepoys marched from Meerut to Delhi, intending to remove British rule. They attacked British officials, set buildings on fire, and seized arms and ammunition. They captured Delhi in just four days. They also declared Bahadur Shah as their leader. Initially, the British were unable to face the wrath of armed sepoys. But they suppressed the revolt in September 1857 through reinforcement from Britain. The government also passed new laws to convict the sepoys easily. Bahadur Shah was tried and sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to Rangoon. Delhi was thus recaptured by the British.
