Detailed Solution

Varanasi was referred to as the "City of Light" and the "luminous city as a renowned center of learning" in Rigveda. Varanasi is also called Kashi. The Sanskrit verbal root ka-, which in this poem means "to shine," gives the city its name. Varanasi has functioned as a symbol of the Hindu Renaissance because it is only 10 kilometers from Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first speech after becoming enlightened. The Ganges is thought to have begun in Lord Shiva's hair and developed in Varanasi into the potent river we are all familiar with today. Varanasi produces silks and brocades with beautiful gold and silver threadwork. There is a prominent carpet weaving center in Bhadohi. Brassware, glass, ivory, and wooden toys are all created in Varanasi. Numerous religious celebrations take place all across the city.
