Balkan's region was the battlefield of the First world war. The collapse of the Ottoman empire initiated nationalism in the Balkan states. The inhabitants of the regions that the Balkans consisted of were known as Slavs. The situation became precarious when the feeling of nationalism started spreading. The Ottoman empire strengthened itself through modernisation and internal reforms to control the case, but everything was in vain. Its European nations gradually separated and fought for their independence and political rights. Slavic nationalities got into severe clashes to expand their territories and impose their superiority on each other, making the Balkan area an area of conflict. An intense rivalry was going on between the European powers over trade, colonies, and naval and military during this period. These conflicts and rivalry made the Balkans the first world war battlefield.
