Detailed Solution

Union Carbide was the company responsible for the Bhopal gas tragedy in India. Union Carbide(UC) was a US-based company that set up a plant for pesticides and was responsible for the Bhopal gas tragedy that took place on the midnight of 2 December 1984. Due to fewer safety and security measures, a very harmful gas named methyl isocyanate (MIC) was leaked from the UC plant in Bhopal, killing almost 8000 people immediately after it spread and affecting lakhs of people across the state. The main reason for this tragedy was the lack of safety facilities at the plant. There were no computerised detection machines that could detect the gas leakage and no alarms that could inform the factory people about the leakage. Also, the government at the time didn’t enforce any strict factory laws related to hazardous work.
