       Fa Xian was the first Chinese Buddhist pilgrim.
    Around 1600 years ago, Fa Xian arrived on the subcontinent. Fa Xian started his return trip from Bengal. He got on a ship that belonged to several traders. They had only been on the route for two days when they were caught in a storm. The merchants started tossing their goods overboard to lessen the weight and prevent the ship from sinking. Fa Xian discarded his items but kept his books and his accumulated Buddha statues. After 13 days, the storm finally eased.
