In 1931, Nylon became the first synthetic fibre to be created without using natural raw materials. Fabrics and textiles are composed of synthetic fibres rather than natural fibres. Nylon is a polymer made up of chemical polyamides. It is the strongest synthetic fibre and can be moulded into any shape. A high-pressure process combines carbon-based chemicals found in coal and petroleum to produce nylons, a form of polyamide.
