Tatia Tope was the general of Nana Saheb.
Tantia Tope, born on February 16, 1814, and died on April 18, 1859, was a general of Nana Saheb and a general in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and one of its notable leaders. Tantia Tope, despite not receiving formal military training, is regarded as the best and most capable rebel general. Ramachandra Panduranga Yawalkar was born in Yeola to a Marathi Deshastha Brahmin family (near Nasik). The title "Tope," which means "commanding officer," was given to Tantia. His given name, Tantia, in general. He advanced with the Gwalior contingent after the British reoccupied Kanpur (then known as Cawnpore) and forced General Windham to flee the city. He was a personal supporter of Nana Saheb of Bithur. Later, Tantia Tope rescued Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and joined her in capturing the city of Gwalior. But after being routed at Ranod by General Napier's British Indian troops and again at Sikar, he gave up the fight.
