Detailed Solution

Magadha was the most powerful Mahajanapada. Magadha, Avanti, and Kosala Vatsa were Mahajanapadas with the greatest influence. When the people (tribes) of this time decided to establish their territorial communities, Mahajanapads were established, giving rise to new and long-lasting zones of habitation known as states or Janapadas. In the distant past, India was divided into 16 kingdoms. The sixteen Mahajanapadas were Magadha, Anga, Vajji, Malla, Kashi, Kosala, Vatsa, Chedi, Kuru, Panchal, Shurasena, Matsya, Avanti, Ashmaka, Gandhara, and Kamboja.
