Detailed Solution

Dal Khalsa was the name of the combined forces of 12 misls that operated in the 18th century.
The militia that developed during the unrest of the second half of the eighteenth century is known as Dal Khalsa. The Sikhs in the northwest region of India used it as a powerful fighting force. Guru Gobind Singh was the founder and organised the first Khalsa army. However, he was captured and put to death. Thus, the Sikhs assembled themselves into numerous jathas and misls under Banda Singh Bahadur. But after his death, the Sikhs were organised into 12 misls. These highly mobile guerilla bands or jathas were armed with whatever weapons they could get their hands on and continued to operate even during the darkest times.
