The Holocaust, or Shoah, was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered around 6 million Jews across German-occupied Europe. They murdered around two-thirds of the population of European Jews. The murders were carried out in different ways. They were murdered in pogroms and mass shootings, in gas chambers and gas vans, and by a policy of extermination through labor in concentration camps. The Enabling Act marked the cornerstone of Hitler's dictatorship in Germany, which gave him the autonomy to unleash terror on the Jews population of the country. Jews were portrayed as demonic and isolated from all public affairs, making their lives miserable.
