Detailed Solution

Surat was the pre-colonial port where sea trade was carried on.
During the pre-colonial era, India's foreign marine trade was handled by Surat on the Gujarat coast, Masulipatam on the Tamil coast, and Hooghly in Bengal. Surat is a big city in Gujarat, India, situated by the Tapi river. Surat, once known for silk weaving, is now a commercial centre for textiles, with fabric businesses lining the New Textile Market area. Surat Castle, which sits on a bluff above the river, was built in the 1500s to protect the city from Portuguese colonists. Colonial-era tombs can be seen nearby in the Dutch, Armenian and English cemeteries.
