Detailed Solution

Corn laws were trade laws implemented in Britain to regulate the export or import of corn.
With the expansion in urban centres and the growth of industries, the demand for agricultural products went up, resulting in increased food grain prices. The government restricted the import of corn by implementing the Corn-laws due to pressure from landed groups. Industrialists and urban dwellers were not satisfied with high food prices, so they forced the abolition of the corn laws. After their abolition, food could be imported into Britain more cheaply than it could be produced within the country.
